In the summer of 2009, Josh and Gillian set out to create a shop that focused on lifestyle cycling rather than just cycling for recreation. With its modern take on an old idea, Portland Velocipede opened in March 2010 at 45 York Street. Located in an old historic produce warehouse in downtown Portland, Portland Velocipede strives to provide an attractive environment for those new to cycling as well as bicycle aficionados.

Josh and Gillian have hand picked a wide selection of bicycles ranging in price and style while staying true to their niche of city bicycles. Although the bicycles they stock are admirable for their aesthetics alone, test rides really show their true merit and are always encouraged. Portland Velocipede is proud to be a city bike destination where you are able to test ride a Dutch bike, English bike, classic American city bike, and a cargo bike all in the same place.
